As a kid who grew up in the heyday of skateboard culture, this is a way for me to honor both the wheel and the wood. I pluck unique pieces from the rivers, lakes, oceans, and forests that surround us and give them a chance to shine in a new light. I am most interested in woods that has it’s own style, flow, and attitude. If I set out looking for a piece, I can rarely find one. I wish I could say that the wood finds me, but that’s not solely true either. I can honestly say, however, that we find each other. Lastly, the wood finds its wheels, which can be new, vintage, or handmade. All together, the wood, wheels, and trucks create a new Minimalist form that is both grounded and uplifting at the same time. – Joey Garfield
