Image as Virus: Better Badges In The Punk Era – brought to you by Busy Beaver Button Museum and Busy Beaver Button Co.
The Busy Beaver Button Museum and Busy Beaver Button Co. are proud to announce the hosting of Image As Virus: Better Badges In The Punk Era, a travelling exhibition of historical punk badges (aka buttons) originally produced from 1976-1982.
The exhibition, first shown in New York in December 2016, focuses on Better Badges, a small but culturally crucial merchandise company formed by Joly MacFie in West London. Better Badges created the very first punk button in 1976 and went on to produce an estimated 40 million pins over the next six years until its demise in 1982.
This exhibition comes from the personal, 10,000+ button collection of Kevin Pedersen, head of the Brooklyn-based “What’s Your Rupture?” record label and initiator of the Punk Badges Instagram site.
The show includes rarely-seen original merchandise by key punk bands and labels such as Buzzcocks, Ramones, Crass, Suicide, Joy Division, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Modern Lovers, Industrial Wombats, FAST Product, The Raincoats and Motorhead.
