Dear Carmencita: Phillips Conversation & Figure Drawing

August 2, 2018 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Dear Carmencita Pop-Up Bar

“You can’t do sketches enough. Sketch everything, and keep your curiosity fresh.” – John Singer Sargent

5:30-6:30pm – Conversation with Lauren Peterson
Lauren Peterson, Phillips’ Regional Representative and Associate Vice President of Chicago & Midwest, makes a visit to Dear Carmencita where she’ll share her breadth of knowledge surrounding contemporary portraiture and how today’s market translates to yesteryear’s.

7:30-9pm – Figure Drawing
Complimentary | Materials available first come, first served
Ever wanted to learn how to draw a proper butt, as seen in John Singer Sargent’s “Nude Egyptian Girl,” but too embarrassed to ask how? Laura Mae Noble, an instructor at the School of the Art Institute, breaks down the basics of observational figure drawing in this playful, drop-in workshop. We’ll set up a mini-museum, with a range of items to sketch and perfect, all while Laura floats the room offering instruction for all levels. Materials provided complimentary, or welcome to bring your own.

Dear Carmencita will open for regular service at 5pm.
