Ryley Walker: Storytelling with Featherproof Press and Live Set
Join us for a Sunday afternoon with Ryley Walker in the Chicago Athletic Association’s Drawing Room. First, he’ll be joining in another installment of the Storytelling Series, in which we invite Tim Kinsella of Featherproof Press to chat with some of Chicago’s most interesting figures. Then, Ryley will treat us to his trademark blend of jazz, psych rock, and folk music during a intimate live set. Seating is on a first come, first served basis as space allows.
Ryley Walker b.1989, is the reincarnation of the true American guitar player. That’s as much a testament to his roving, rambling ways, or the fact that his Guild D-35 guitar has endured a few stints in the pawnshop. Having been compared to some of the greatest musicians of all time, and his most recent critically acclaimed album Primrose Green has only further warranted his budding iconic status. As much as Walker is a familiar friend to the city of Chicago, make no mistake that he’s grown a reputation worldwide as a mesmerizing someone to watch.According to its mission statement, Chicago’s Featherproof Books publishes strange and beautiful fiction and nonfiction and post-, trans-, and inter-genre tragicomedy. The Featherproof podcast, hosted by publisher Tim Kinsella, expands on this sensibility by interviewing guests that we know to have interesting stories whether or not they identify as writers or artists or performers or exist as public figures in any way. We know that everyone has a story and we aim to help them release it.
