Happy Hour and Screening: Silenced
Chicago Votes is a non-partisan, non-profit organization building a more inclusive democracy.
Join us at the hotel for an in-person Give A Sh*t Happy Hour, Chicago Votes’ recurring intentional meet up series for a screening of Silenced: An Unlock Civics Documentary. Silenced is a story of voting rights for those disenfranchised through incarceration. After the screening, Chicago Votes will host a panel featuring those directly impacted by this narrative.
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Happy Hour (On Chicago Votes!)
7:00 PM Screening & Panel
Rounding out the message, letters and art from currently incarcerated people on the importance of voting in prison will be displayed.
Silenced: An Unlock Civics Documentary is a story of the democracy that exists in the United States, that silences millions of people who have been or are currently disenfranchised through incarceration. When people in prison cannot vote, influence policy, or hold elected officials accountable, things like inhumane prison conditions, problematic judges, and “tough-on-crime” policies persist more easily.
Chicago Votes’ #UnlockCivics legislative platform works at the intersection of organizing and advocacy to ensure that people affected by the American legal system have access to their civic rights and responsibilities.
