About The 41st Day: When work began on The 41st Day in early 2012, Ryan Hall was unquestionably the fastest marathoner in America and still young—conventional wisdom dictated he would only get better. He had just qualified for the Olympic team, was favored to win a medal, and was the rare track & field athlete whose fame transcended the sport; a record breaking runner, who had enough cultural capital to appear in national television commercials. The film was to follow his training as he prepared for the biggest race of his career, then capture the spectacular moment as he attained Olympic glory. That never happened. Unbeknownst to Ryan, filming began just past the apex of his career.
