Storytelling Series: Ship To Shore Productions with Photographer & Great Lakes Surfer Mike Killion
In their latest collaboration with the hotel, Ship To Shore Productions helped dream-up the Cherry Circle Yacht Club, a pop-up bar experience debuting during the America’s Cup sailing competition happening on Lake Michigan for the first time June 10 – 12. To celebrate the pop-up, Ship To Shore will host their next Storytelling Series event in the Yacht Club on June 16. Join STS co-founder and sailing photographer Zachary James Johnston for a conversation with fellow photographer and Great Lakes surfer Mike Killion.
Believe it or not, there’s a thriving surfing community in the Midwest. Not only is Killion one of the dedicated surfers chasing waves on the Great Lakes, he takes his camera along for the ride and has become one of the most notable documentarians of this freshwater sport. Killion will share his photographs along with tales of surfing in the freezing winter months, finding like-minded surfers in the most unlikely places and discovering techniques for tracking surfing conditions along the lakefront.

About the Cherry Circle Yacht Club
The Cherry Circle Yacht Club is inspired by the Chicago Athletic Association hotel’s own yacht club from the early 20th century, and is named after their boat the Cherry Circle. The concept was developed by Chicago-based art gallery Johalla Projects and Ship to Shore Productions. Land and Sea Dept. will be operating the bar, which will feature a menu of historic and nautically inclined cocktails from beverage director Paul McGee, alongside a selection of beer from Anchor Brewing.
The Cherry Circle Yacht Club will be open in The Tank Thursday – Sunday through June 26, from 5pm to midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon – 5pm on Sundays. The Cherry Circle Yacht Club will also be open special extended hours June 10 – 12 for guests who are on the lakefront to experience the America’s Cup race: 5pm – midnight on Friday, June 10, noon – midnight on Saturday, June 11, and noon – 10pm on Sunday, June 12.
