Storytelling with S U R V I V E
November 7, 2016 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Drawing Room
Join us in the Drawing Room for a special lunch hour series of storytelling. This week, we invite S U R V I V E in to talk life and music with Kevin Warwick (Chicago Reader, AV Club) in partnership with the Empty Bottle
- With their recent full-length, RR7349—their first for Relapse Records—the Texan synthesizer auteurs in S U R V I V E have tunneled deeper into the recesses of oblique sci-fi universes, noosing jogging pulses with constricting swells of dark ambient harmony. At one turn triumphant and revelatory, the instrumental quartet’s soundscapes often devolve into grim, chilling scenes of horror, offering the best accompaniment to painting the walls, any walls, with blood. It’s plenty heady stuff, and if you’re not mindful of the ethereal haze billowing forth from the S U R V I V E squad of smoldering and quivering synths—that which is also present in Stranger Things, the popular Netflix series scored by a pair of the band’s members—you’re likely to be swallowed whole within their universe as time stands still around you.
