Transitioning to Parenthood: Identity, Emotions & Physical Recovery from Birth

In celebration of Mother’s Day, we’re honored to join forces with the women behind Chicago-based wellbeing company, Nyssa.

Nyssa is a new wellbeing company founded by three Chicago-based women who want to see more honest, open dialogue around the physical and emotional realities of new motherhood. Through their Instagram community @nyssacare and their new podcast Nyssa: The Unmentionables, they seek to shine a light on what really goes down during the postpartum period and reassure new parents that whatever they are going through, they are not alone.

This live podcast conversation features three special guest experts and will be focused on the realities—both seen and unseen—that new parents navigate as they enter new social and family dynamics:

Nikki Lively, MA, LCSW: Clinical Director, Transitions to Parenthood Program at the Family Institute at Northwestern University
Anna Bonick, RN, CD (DTI) & Eleanor Romeus, CD (DTI): Co-founders and birth & postpartum doulas at It Takes A Village Birth + Family Support

The conversation will be followed by a Q&A and a short set by local musician Angela James, whose new album, Quiet Night, was written during her experience of postpartum depression.

This event is family friendly and open to all.
