How Gen Z Can Change the Face(s) of Classical Music

November 27, 2018 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Stagg Court, followed by Happys pop up bar

This Giving Tuesday, Merit School of Music, Chicago Sinfonietta, and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) invite you to question the homogeneity of modern classical music. African-Americans and Latinx represent barely 4% of American orchestras. Why is this? And how can we change the look of the orchestras of the future? Student musicians from varying backgrounds will share diverse perspectives on finding a place in classical music. Their stories will be interspersed with musical performances that prove: while opportunity may not be equally distributed, talent definitely is.

FREE RSVP

Afterwards, from 7-9 pm join the Associate Board of Merit for a fundraiser benefiting the school’s mission to remove barriers to high-quality music education. This post-panel party will take place inside of our holiday bar, Happy’s, and include drinks, tacos, and music. Head over to Merit’s eventbrite page to purchase a ticket.

These events are going to be a blast!
