Hooligan Mag Presents: LIZA ANNE’S ABBA DISCO FOR ABORTION CARE
July 8
7:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Get to know clay! We’re very excited to welcome Liz McCarthy, founder of GnarWare Workshop, to teach this introduction to hand building class at the hotel. Each participant will leave with a new skill to hone while putting your creative take on making your own cup or small vessel. After, you’ll have the opportunity to underglaze your piece on site before Liz takes it back to the studio to fire and seal.
Rounding out our Commitment to Community for this event, in the 30 minutes before class, participants have the option to meet at Buddy. Buddy is an artist-led, artist-based shop inside the Chicago Cultural Center (4 min. walk from the hotel) where some pieces created at GnarWare live for sale. Join us if you’d like to gain some inspiration before we head to the hotel for class.
3:25 depart from CAA valet stand 71 e Madison, walk to Buddy (optional)
3:30 – 4pm Buddy tour (optional)
4:05-6pm Class at Chicago Athletic Association hotel
Students will be able to pick up their finished pieces from the GnarWare studio in Pilsen, or the hotel, after 2 weeks.
100% of ticket sales will go back to GnarWare, furthering their community-based studio.
GnarWare Workshop is a Pilsen based ceramics studio, started in 2017. This space is dedicated to providing studios, workshops, and drop-in tutorials to help artists and hobbyists work through ideas. GnarWare is committed to material and conceptual experimentation as a workshop and community gathering place. GnarWare encourages conversations around developing skills and de-skilling developments.
Buddy is a collaboration between Public Media Institute and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) furthering both institutions’ goals of providing visibility and opportunities to artists across the Chicagoland area. Through exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, readings, and product launches, Buddy will work to bring the creative output of our city’s neighborhoods to the city center for visitors and locals alike to consume. Buddy is a place that introduces the world to the people making it happen in Chicago, a place that helps them create a sustainable world we all want to work, play, and live in.
