Victoria Martinez
Through July, we are pleased to present work by Victoria Martinez.
The four maps on display are inspired by the Psychogeographic guide of Paris created by Guy Debord and the Situationist International (SI) movement. The works of art are a reimagination of the maps made by the artist which includes Lake Michigan, the body, watermelon, a city wall, and Aztec mythology.
Victoria Martinez is an interdisciplinary artist who explores textiles, painting, printmaking, and installation art. She received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2010 and an MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 2020. Martinez has exhibited nationally and internationally including the Yale University Art Gallery, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Loyola University Museum of Art, and her work has been critically appraised in Poetry Foundation Magazine and The University of Chicago Press. Upcoming projects include solo exhibitions at Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Chicago, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles in California, and an art feature in New American Paintings.
